Two dogs walking calmly on leash beside a handler on a sunny sidewalk, practicing loose leash walking during training

The Secret to Having a Coffee Shop Dog

Hey there,

You know those dogs at the coffee shop who just… exist? Lying under the table while their owner reads. Ignoring the toddler with the muffin. Watching other dogs walk by without losing their mind.

Meanwhile, your dog would turn that peaceful patio into WWE SmackDown.

What Actually Makes a Patio Dog?

It’s not about age. I’ve seen 8-month-old puppies nail it and 5-year-olds who still can’t.

It’s not about breed. I’ve seen dogs of every breed who can be great patio dogs. It’s not about wearing your dog out physically either.

Here’s what patio dogs actually have:

Social Confidence: Not to be confused with “loves everyone.” These dogs aren’t desperate to meet every person. They’re not stressed by every noise. They’re just… confident.

An Off Switch: This is the big one. Your dog needs to be ok with the practice of “doing nothing”. Watching the world without participating. Most dogs never learn this because we never teach it.

Handler Focus: When a dog chooses you over distractions because you’ve become more interesting than the chaos around them. That’s when patios become possible.

Give us a few weeks and my team will have your dog doing this! We’ll need your help of course, but this is a reasonable goal for most dogs we train.

Want a dog who enhances your social life instead of limiting it?

P.S. – The best part? Once your dog learns to be a patio dog, they’re also easier at home. Because a dog with an off switch can use it everywhere, not just in public places.
