- Early Energy Release: Puppies are bundles of joy and energy, and they need an outlet for it. Imagine waking up to Christmas every day – that’s how excited they are to explore. Channel that energy through play with other pups or toys to prevent unwanted behavior.
- Start Training Early: Training should begin right away. Even short sessions of 30 seconds with treats can make a big difference. Dogs are eager to learn and bond with their owners, so don’t delay.
- Building Bonds: Remember, any interaction with your pup is a reward for them. Dogs love us unconditionally, and they thrive on the attention and affection we give them.
- Consistent Schedule: Establish a routine for feeding, playtime, and rest. Puppies need lots of sleep, similar to newborns. A regular schedule helps them rest and recover from their active playtime.
- Socialize, Socialize, Socialize: Regular playdates with other dogs, at least three times a week, are crucial for mental and physical stimulation. It also prevents behavioral issues.
- Socialize with Children: If you have kids, make sure your pup socializes with them too. Choose playmates who are gentle and considerate. The right mix of children and puppies is key to a positive interaction.
- Introduce the Leash: Get your pup used to the leash early on. Let them drag it around to avoid leash fear. By around four months old, start formal leash training.
