Want a sneak peek into what awaits your dog when they start their training program at Train Walk Poop?
Today, I’m answering the most common questions we get:
Will My Dog Be Socialized?
Absolutely! We’re big on social skills because, like us, dogs thrive when they have good social skills. Some dogs play their hearts out but all dogs learn to be polite. Our social classes are legendary for being safe and fun.
How Do Dogs Interact?
Your dog will be carefully introduced to other dogs. We will keep them on a leash until we’re confident they will interact politely with the rest of the class. By pairing your dog with other dogs of a similar size and with similar energy levels we set them up for success.
Will My Dog Be Meeting Multiple People?
Yes, while your dog will have 1 assigned trainer during their program, our team of trainers all help each other with feeding, potty breaks, social classes, etc. Dogs often need to practice good behavior with various people. We excel at making dogs feel comfortable quickly. Our team of trainers are experts at winning over the affections of every dog that comes to us.
We often hear things like, “wow, my dog has never warmed up to someone so quickly. Are they like this with the whole staff?” And the answer is, yes they are!
What Breeds Do You Work With?
All breeds, no exceptions! From majestic mastiffs to tiny chihuahuas, we’ve worked with them all.
Do You Train The Owner?
Absolutely! We believe training humans is as crucial as training dogs, if not more so. Expect in-person sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart to allow time for you to practice at home before moving forward. Your trainer’s email and phone number will be given to you so you can message them whenever you need them. We love nerding out about dogs so the more questions the better!
Do You Take A Balanced Or A Force-Free Approach To Training?
Our approach combines rewards and corrections, as it’s impossible to train without both. We prioritize fairness and only reprimand for behaviors the dog has already been taught. Here are a few examples:
A kennel break to help them settle down
Being put on a tether to learn to wait for their turn to train
Stepping on their leash to stop them from running into another dog in social class
A pop of the leash to remind them to stop pulling ahead on a walk
A tap on the butt as a reminder that “hey that was rude”
A verbal “no” or “uh uh”, for taking a treat with teeth or for standing up when asked to stay seated.
