How We Train Dogs at Train Walk Poop (and Why)
Train Walk Poop has been training dogs since 2007. We have worked with thousands of dogs. Here is how we do it, and how you would learn it.
Play and trust come first
A dog who feels safe is a dog who can learn. We start by building trust. Play groups, fun, and a calm team are a big part of our days.
We also use training tools
We use e-collars, prong collars, bark collars, and other tools. Used the way we teach, they help a dog reach their potential faster and become their best self.
An e-collar is a way to talk to a dog from a distance. We use it very gently. It lets a dog earn more freedom. It is a tool, not the whole program. Our goal is a dog who feels confident, not a dog who is scared of making mistakes.
Using these tools the way we teach is a required part of working here. If you are not willing to use them, please do not apply.
How we teach you
You do not need to be a trainer to start. Every new team member begins with a two week onboarding and trial period.
- You learn our dog handling and safety systems.
- You learn how we care for dogs, and how we clean and sanitize.
- You finish self-paced training modules.
- You get hands-on coaching from the team.
- You learn the basics of dog behavior and training.
A successful trial period is required before we offer permanent employment.
Small groups, close attention
Most of our play groups run with 12 dogs or fewer for each staff member. That means every dog gets watched closely.
Why we do it this way
Every dog deserves a skilled, caring person. The best way we know to get one is to teach them ourselves.
